Army and NDRF teams today saved the lives of 223 flood victims from the fury of floods in Beas and Sutlej rivers in the mand areas of Sultanpur Lodhi.
Deputy Commissioner Captain Karnail Singh today said that the district administration has given priority to saving people’s lives and saved around 223 people and shifted them to relief camps, where they are being provided with ration, drinking water, medicines etc.
“NDRF, Punjab Police and Army personnel have been working around the clock to evacuate people from flood effected areas. NDRF has rescued 59 people yesterday besides 134 more people are evacuated today, he added.
He said that Army and police personnel have also evacuated 30 more people to safe places.
Eighteen NDRF jawans and 2 teams of Punjab Police including 18 police jawans are putting their best efforts to evacuate the people trapped in the flood in the affected areas .
To save the livestock, district administration has also provided dry fodder and green fodder and a team of veterinary doctors is vaccinating livestocks.
Meanwhile Environmentalist AAP Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and his followers are working round o clock to plug the 100 feet wide breach on the bundh near village Mandala with the help of sand bags .Seechewal told PTI that it is very difficult task to plug the breach as the flow of gushing water is very high and they are concentrating to strengthen the bundh near breach to check further erosion of breach and breach would be plugged when flow in the Sutlej river decrease.
