The Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur laid the foundation stone of Multipurpose Sports Hall at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda on Wednesday.
While speaking on the occasion in online mode, Anurag Thakur said that under Khelo India, the Union government is taking all steps to promote Sports in the country and giving every kind of facilities to the sports person and the result is evident in the number of medals the players have won in different international events.
He said Khelo India was envisioned by Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi aimed to create a sports culture in India by giving a platform to grassroots athletes & building sports infrastructure across the country and all efforts are being made to nurture athletes from the playfield to the podium.
He further said that earlier the field of sports was neglected but the present Shri Narendra Modi government increased the budgetary allocation for sports and Punjab is also under great focus, which is once known for its glory in sports.
He said various sports centres of excellence have been launched under the Khelo India project and more than 450 new coaches were recruited to give professional push to the sports.
