The Aam Aadmi Party will protest at BJP headquarters in Delhi on February 2 against rigging in Chandigarh Mayor elections. The demonstration will be held under the leadership of AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will also be present.

In a statement issued from Chandigarh party headquarters on Thursday, AAP Punjab Working President Principal Budh Ram said that BJP is destroying the democracy and electoral system of our country. The rigging and bullying in Chandigarh Mayor elections is the latest example of this.

He said that the presiding officer appointed for the Chandigarh Mayor election deliberately cancelled the votes of our eight councilors and made BJP candidate mayor.

The Constitution and law were flouted in the Mayor elections. The presiding officer, whose job was to monitor the election process, was himself conspiring to invalidate the votes of anti-BJP councilors.

Budhram accused the presiding officer of tampering with the ballot papers to invalidate the votes of the INDIA Alliance councilors and appealed to the High Court to hold re-elections and take legal action against the presiding officer.

He said that it is very important to defeat the BJP to save the democracy of our country. The way the BJP’s central and state governments are attacking the democratic system, if it comes to power again in 2024, they will end the electoral process itself.
