In a significant breakthrough in the war against drugs, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested five drug smugglers and recovered 140 grams of heroin along with a Hyundai Creta during a special operation near Dana Mandi, Adampur.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ravi, a resident of Rajasthan, Nitan Sharma of Hoshiarpur, along with three others namely Mukul and Ajay Kumar, both residents of Amritsar, and their associate.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, said that this operation was conducted as part of an intensified anti-drug campaign under the supervision of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath, IPS, and DSP Kulwant Singh, PPS. The operation was expertly executed by Inspector Ravinderpal Singh along with SI Gurmeet Ram and their team.
SSP Khakh added that on January 26, 2025, the police party noticed suspicious activity near the railway gate at Dana Mandi Adampur, where five individuals were seated in a parked Hyundai Creta. Upon inspection, the police team discovered a wax-sealed package concealed in the vehicle’s gear console, containing 140 grams of heroin.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 13 dated 26.01.2025 under sections 21(b), 61-85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Adampur.
The accused have been remanded to police custody for further investigation to uncover the broader drug trafficking network and their suppliers.
The police team is conducting thorough interrogations to trace the source of the contraband and identify other members of this drug trafficking network.
SSP Khakh emphasised that the Jalandhar Rural Police will continue their relentless efforts to eradicate the drug menace from society.
