Following credible intelligence, a raid conducted inside the jail resulted in the seizure of 9 mobile phones, 4 smartwatches, 50 grams of opium, and other contraband items. Initial investigations revealed the involvement of a Class-IV employee who facilitated the smuggling activities.
Further probing into the network’s backward and forward linkages led to the arrest of Manpreet Singh from Amritsar, an associate of Gurvinder Singh, an inmate currently lodged in Sangrur Jail. Police recovered 4 kilograms of heroin, ₹5.5 lakh in drug money, a Glock pistol, and live rounds from Manpreet Singh’s possession.
In a shocking development, DSP Security of Sangrur Jail, Gurpreet Singh, was arrested for his active role in the smuggling of drugs and mobile phones into the jail. Investigations revealed that he received payments through UPI accounts linked to his family members.
DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward internal collusion with criminal elements, stating, “No individual, regardless of their rank or position, will be spared if found involved in illegal activities.” The investigation is ongoing, with expectations of additional arrests and revelations.
The Punjab Police remain committed to rooting out corruption and criminal networks to ensure justice and public safety.
