Punjab Govt releases Rs 4.21-crore grant to strengthen facilities in 15 old age homes: Dr. Baljit Kaur

The Punjab Government is committed to serving, supporting and upholding the dignity of the elderly. As part of this commitment, the state government has established old age homes in all districts to provide safe shelter for destitute elderly.

For the financial year 2024-25, the Punjab Government has released a grant of ₹4.21 crore for 15 old age homes across the state.

Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur stated that any elderly person can reside in these homes, where they are provided with free accommodation, clothing, food, and other essential facilities.

For this purpose, old age homes are being run by the department in collaboration with non-governmental organizations.

She disclosed that the old age homes of various districts of the state have been provided with Rs. 37.68 lakhs to Amritsar, Rs. 28.54 lakhs to Bathinda, Rs. 28.54 lakhs to Fazilka respectively.

Apart from this, A grant of Rs 70.41 lakh to Ludhiana, Rs 22.47 lakh to Malerkotla, Rs 28.54 lakh to Moga, Rs 28.79 lakh to Pathankot, Rs 17.77 lakh to Patiala, Rs 30.80 lakh to Ropar, Rs 58.49 lakh to Sangrur, Rs 21.55 lakh to Tarn Taran, Rs. 22.02 lakhs to Faridkot and Rs. 26.37 lakhs to Ferozepur has been issued.

The Cabinet Minister also mentioned that the department is constructing old age homes in Barnala and Mansa districts, each with a capacity of 75 elderly. These homes are being built at a cost of ₹17.34 crore and will be completed soon.

A comfortable and supportive environment will be created for the elderly in these newly constructed facilities. Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously working for the welfare of senior citizens.

She emphasized that elderly individuals are an integral part of society, and taking care of their health and well-being is a moral responsibility. The government’s primary objective is to honor and enhance the quality of life of elderly.
