Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday launched a sharp attack on opposition parties, particularly the Shiromani Akali Dal, accusing previous governments of pursuing power-driven politics at the cost of the people’s welfare.

In his speech, Mann said, “Opposition leaders often ask us in the Assembly, ‘Where did you come from?’ We reply that we came because people were tired of pain and suffering. If their governance had been good and Punjab had not been looted, there would have been no need for us to take charge.”

Highlighting his government’s record, the Chief Minister claimed that over 55,000 youths have been provided government jobs on merit, without recommendations or favoritism. He contrasted this with past governments, which he alleged only brought “destruction and grief” to households.

Taking a direct swipe at the Shiromani Akali Dal, Mann remarked, “The Akali Dal is now divided into two or three factions. I don’t even understand which one is the real Akali Dal. They are the ones responsible for looting Punjab, and the people have struggled hard to free themselves from their grip.”

Mann emphasized that while past regimes fought for power, his government’s fight is to improve the lives of ordinary Punjabis.
