Mohali, June 16

Former Punjab Health Minister and senior Congress leader Balbir Singh Sidhu launched a scathing attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging a complete failure in ensuring uninterrupted power supply across Mohali and Punjab.

Highlighting the dire situation, Sidhu said, “Today, temperatures in Mohali are soaring above 40°C, and yet there are power cuts lasting 8–10 hours every night. Residents are being forced to spend sleepless nights in this unbearable heat, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is busy indulging in false propaganda ahead of the Ludhiana elections.”

Reacting to a recent tweet by AAP leader Manish Sisodia claiming “zero power cuts in Punjab,” Sidhu retorted, “People are literally sleeping in their cars due to continuous outages, and Sisodia, who has no understanding of Punjab’s reality, is shamelessly peddling lies. This is nothing short of mockery.”

Drawing attention to the worsening crisis in Mohali, Sidhu said, “For over six days, residents of Mohali and surrounding areas have been reeling under repeated outages. Despite filing written complaints with the power authorities, no relief has been provided. In fact, the situation is deteriorating day by day.”

He pointed out that Mohali, a hub for students and working professionals from across the country, is facing a serious setback. “These power cuts are affecting education, work, and the overall image of Punjab across India. Is this the model of governance AAP promised?” Sidhu questioned.

Expanding on the issue, he added, “It’s not just homes. Even premier healthcare institutions like Rajindra Hospital in Patiala have faced blackouts. The government doesn’t seem concerned about patients or citizens—only about gaining votes through flashy but false advertisements.”

Expressing concern over Punjab’s energy infrastructure, Sidhu revealed that “4 out of 15 thermal units in the state have been shut down. This is no longer a power crisis—it is a governance crisis and a direct reflection of administrative failure.”

He also exposed the chronic understaffing in the power department, stating, “While Punjab struggles with outages, there are numerous vacancies in the electricity department. Employees are being forced to work 18–20 hours a day, risking their health and lives. I thank these employees for their tireless service and urge the Chief Minister to immediately fill all vacant posts.”

Concluding his remarks, Sidhu said, “Instead of running misleading PR campaigns, the AAP government should address the ground realities. Punjab is facing a deepening power crisis, and it’s impacting every aspect of daily life. The Bhagwant Mann government must act now and stop misleading the people of the state with hollow promises.”
