Panchkula: 8th Amateur Golfers Society Golf Tournament held

Col. G C Sharma (Retd.) emerged as the winner in the Handicap 0-9 category at the 8th Amateur Golfers Society Golf Tournament held at the Panchkula Golf Club (PGC) on Sunday.

The tournament was organised by the Amateur Golfers Society (AGS) – a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the promotion of golf.

Displaying his exceptional skills on the lush green golf course of PGC, Col. G C Sharma clinched the top spot with an impressive score of 72 in this prestigious tournament. In the same category, Col. Tika Bedi secured the second spot with a score of 78, while Brig. G J Singh settled for the third position with a score of 81.

Vineet Garg, Additional Chief Secretary of Education, Government of Haryana, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Anish Arora, Director, TSJ Group(Mohali Citi Centre), H C Goyal, Owner , Jia Diamonds and Vivek Kapoor, MD of Jupiter Aqua Lines (JAL), were the Guests’ of Honor.

Meanwhile, in a stellar performance, Babita Mahajan emerged victorious with a score of 87 in the women’s category. In the Handicap 10-15 category, Prashant Modgil clinched first position with a score of 75, while Rajinder Meena with 81 and G S Hira with 82 secured second and third positions, respectively.

In the Handicap 16 and above category, CP Kaushal emerged victorious with an impressive score of 80, while Dr. RK Talwar finished as the first runner-up with a score of 81, and Kulbir Bakshi attained third place, scoring 82. The winners were felicitated with trophies and gift hampers to honor their achievements.

Rajinder Meena won the ‘Nearest to the Pin’ . Amrinder Singh took the ‘Longest Drive’ title with an impressive 318-yard drive, while Col. Hardeep Judge claimed victory in the ‘Straightest Drive’ with a perfect 11-yard hit.

Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Suresh K. Gupta, Founder Trustee of AGS, congratulated the participants and winners, saying, “It’s overwhelming to see such enthusiasm from the golfing community. A total of 100 players, including 88 men and 12 women, competed across various categories. All the golfers played all 18 holes on the par-72 course.”

Menika Sharma, Head of Events at AGS said,“It is heartwarming to see more women participating in tournaments like this. Women playing golf in greater numbers is a positive sign for the tricity region.”

Gupta further said , “AGS is committed to promoting the love of golf and nurturing young emerging talent in the region. In this endeavor, we are organizing tournaments that serve as wonderful opportunities for talented individuals to showcase their skills and improve their game in a highly competitive environment. Such tournaments will not only promote the golfing culture in the region but also help foster new talent in the near future.”

Outlining the vision to establish Panchkula as one of the top golfing destinations on the global map, Architect C P Kaushal, who has been assigned by AGS as the architect in-charge of AGS’s upcoming Golf range in Panchkula said, “AGS is in the process of setting up a Golf Range in Panchkula, which will not only serve the tricity area but also attract golfers from across India and abroad. State-of-the-art golf training infrastructure with residential facilities will be available within the premises of the range.”
