one assailant was injured in an encounter with the police which took place in the Mand area of Dhilwan here this morning.
Senior Superientendent of police Gaurav Toora identified the assailant as Ramandeep Singh resident of Kathunangal and involved in 13 criminal cases including murder and attempt to murders .Narrating the details of incident SSP said police had arrested two accused on Thursday who were involved in a firing incident at Dhilwan Toll plaza on the midnight of June 25. One of the four accused in a car had opened fire when he was asked to pay toll tax at Dhilwan toll plaza on Jalandhar-Amritsar national highway .police said the toll employees had a providential escape and the accused fled the scene immediately after the firing.
After the arrest of two accused they were taken to the Mand area of Dhilwan for the recovery of arms and ammunition this morning .When the police was recovering the weapons one of accused pushed police party and tried to fled away .Police opened fire and one of bullet hit his leg and police captured both of them .
The injured was admitted in local civil hospital and stated to be out of danger.
Addressing a press conference here in evening Senior Superientendent of police Gaurav Toora said that Police recovered huge consignment of arms and ammunition from accused hidden in the Mand area of Dhilwan . These include 3 pistols 9 MM with magazines (imported), 2 pistols 32 bore with magazines, 1 revolver 0.32 bore, one 12 bore gun, 51 rounds 7.62 MM , 25 rounds 9 MM, 8 rounds 12 bore, 30 rounds 0.32 bore pistol and 24 rounds 0.32 bore revolver have been recovered from the accused besides on car and a thar jeep.
Police parties have been despatched to arrest the remaining two accused .
