One arrested with 10 grams of narcotic powder, 4 drug users also arrested

Rupnagar, June 25: In order to implement the “War Against Drugs” campaign being run by the Punjab Government at the ground level, the District Rupnagar Police is continuously taking action against drug peddlers.

Giving information in this regard, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar S. Gulneet Singh Khurana said that as per the directions of Director General of Police Punjab Mr. Gaurav Yadav and under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police Rupnagar Range Rupnagar S. Harcharan Singh Bhullar, the Rupnagar District Police has launched a campaign against drug smugglers and anti-social elements under the “War Against Drugs” campaign. In various cases of the Act, 1 person was arrested and 10 grams of narcotic powder/substance was recovered from him and 4 drug addicts were arrested.

Giving further information in this regard, he said that in continuation of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, the District Police checked drug smugglers and bad elements through roadblocks and patrols at various places, during which Talwinder Singh alias Taran, resident of village Jatana, was arrested by Police Station Sri Chamkaur Sahib and 10 grams of narcotic powder/substance was recovered from him and Police Station Sadar Morinda arrested drug addicts Sehajpreet Singh, Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa, resident of village Dumna, Jashandeep Singh, resident of village Panjkoha, Police Station Khamano, District Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Gurbachan Singh, resident of village Chuhar Majra, District Rupnagar and NDPS cases were registered against them. Cases were registered under the Act.

In addition, in continuation of Project ‘Sampark’, to make the general public aware of the ill effects of drugs and to further enhance the coordination of the public with the police, a meeting was held with the gazetted officers and the Chief Officers of the police stations in the villages and they were informed about the Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline and their suggestions were also taken.

SSP Rupnagar appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the police to eliminate the menace of drugs and if any person is involved in drug trafficking/smuggling in their area, then his information should be shared on the Safe Punjab Anti-Drug Helpline number 97791-00200 (WhatsApp chatbot) or the district police number. The name and address of the informant will be kept confidential.
