New Delhi, June 7

Janata Dal United supremo Nitish Kumar on Friday seconded Narendra Modi’s name for the post of the Prime Minister – for a third successive term – at a meeting of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s newly-elected Members of Parliament.

The CM of Bihar – who was moniker “Paltu Kumar” in January when he shifted from the INDIA bloc he helped set up to the BJP’s side – also took a jibe at his ex-INDIA Bloc colleagues, stating the group “has not done any work for the country”. The JDU supremo also announced, “I will be with the PM at all times.” Probably, this was a reaction of Nitish to his critics expecting a another political U-turn in less than a decade.

Nitish Kumar’s support for PM Modi was also a reply to the speculations made by the INDIA bloc many of whom were expecting a u-turn by Nitish.

The JDU leader became as one of two main allies after the Lok Sabha election –  JDU has 12 MPs and TDP  has 16 and both will be key for Modi’s party to form and run the government after it failed to cross the majority mark of 272. The saffron party has only 240 seats.

Nitish has maintained silence even after he and his former ally, the RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, set rumours abuzz when they were photographed on the Patna-Delhi flight, on their way to the NDA and INDIA alliance meetings to review poll results and the next plan of action.
