NHRC Special Monitor Bal Krishan Goyal visits Kapurthala; checks human rights violations

National Human Rights Commission Special Monitor Bal Krishan Goyal today said commission is concentrating on hospitals, jails, police stations and schools to check human rights violations.

During his two-day visit to Kapurthala, the commission special monitor visited the hospital and met patients and checked hospital and also held meeting with the health authorities.

Addressing the officers, Goel urged officials to take an active and responsible role in promoting human rights awareness across the district during a meeting at the District Administrative Complex (DAC).

Addressing the Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora, Municipal Commissioner Anupam Kaler, and other departmental officials, Goel emphasised the NHRC’s on-going efforts to raise awareness about human rights protection through district-level visits. He highlighted that the Commission is providing training to officials and educating the public on accessible methods for filing complaints with the NHRC, which requires no fees or legal representation.

 

 

Goel stressed the NHRC’s continuous monitoring of sensitive areas, including hospitals, jails, police stations, and schools, to ensure compliance with human rights standards. He underscored the importance of treating senior citizens with empathy and compassion to safeguard their rights. Additionally, he directed Labour Department officials to intensify efforts to eliminate child labour in factories and emphasized regular testing of drinking water in schools. Special measures for the welfare of juveniles in the Central Jail were also highlighted.
He also inspected the Central Jail to assess measures for protecting inmates’ human rights.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to upholding the human rights of all citizens.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Navneet Kaur Bal, Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, and heads of various departments.
