New fire station to come up, govt sanctions Rs 2.5 crore: Minister Dr Ravjot Singh

The present fire brigade station situated at congested market in the city will be shifted to an open and appropriate place with Punjab local government minister Dr Ravjot Singh on Wednesday inspected the location near Gaushala.

Accompanied by deputy commissioner Aashika Jain and other officials, the cabinet minister Dr Ravjot Singh said that the government had already released the funds to the tune of Rs 2.50 crore to local municipal corporation for this purpose. He also directed the officials to speed up the process including tendering and other formalities so that the new fire station could be constructed at the earliest.

The minister also viewed the detailed plan of proposed fire station and expressed satisfaction over the plan. He instructed the officials to make sure that all appropriate arrangement should be there at new fire station to tackle any fire exigency.

Deputy commissioner Aashika Jain apprised the minister that the tendering process was at its last leg and the work would commence shortly. She said that the fire station will be a state-of-the-art building to be spread over 2 kanals of area.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Mayor Surinder Kumar, improvement trust chairman Gurvinder Singh Pabla, vice-chairman PSIDC Harminder Singh Bakshi, MC Commissioner Dr Amandeep Kaur and others.
