Weather patterns have shifted in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. While high areas of Himachal are seeing snowfall, forecasts predict rain in Punjab over the coming days.
Snowfall: Light snow fell Friday night in high areas of Lahaul-Spiti and Chamba. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Kangra, Chamba, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti.
Cold Wave: Warnings are in place for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Mandi districts. Temperatures have dropped below 3°C in 13 cities across the state.
Current Temperatures: Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti recorded -5.2°C, and Kukumsari hit -3.8°C.
Next 6 Days: The worst weather is expected on January 20 and 22 due to western disturbances.
Dense Fog Alert: Today, dense fog is likely in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib. Daytime sunshine may provide some relief from the chill.
Rain Warning: Light rain is expected in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar on January 18 and 19.
Heavy Rain: Heavy rainfall is forecasted for the state on January 23 and 24.
According to Surender Pal, Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Center, rain will raise minimum temperatures by 2-4°C.
