Put all arrangements in place at all 791 polling stations within time: DC Kapurthala

Reviewing poll preparedness in all four constituencies, Deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Amit Kumar Panchal directed the officials to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections at all 791 polling stations.

Chairing a meeting of senior officials and nodal officers, deputy commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said that all polling locations should have requisite arrangements to facilitate voters especially the elderly one and people with disability. He instructed the flying squads and static surveillance teams to remain more vigilant in coming days.

Taking stock of preparations being made by SDMs-cum-assistant returning officers, Panchal emphasised that the constant vigil and regular monitoring of all poll related activities in their respective assembly segments should be continued without any fail so as to keep tab on suspicious activities. He pointed out that coordinated checking should be done extensively to check liquor and cash flow across the district. He asked the AROs to make arrangement of sufficient number of wheel chairs as well as deputing two volunteers for the assistance of senior Citizens and PWD voters.

Stressing that adequate number of police force in areas having vulnerable polling stations, deputy commissioner said that law and order situation in these areas should be maintained at all cost.

Deputy commissioner also instructed the AROs to tie up with concerned agencies for seamless transport arrangements for smooth dispatch of polling parties. He said that all strong rooms and polling stations should be equipped with CCTV surveillance.

Kapurthala district has four constituencies of which two namely Bholath and Phagwara are part of Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency, whereas Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi fall in Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency.

Of total 6,26,866 voters in the district, 3,26,989 are male voters, 2,99,844 are female voters besides 33 transgender voters. Likewise, 4,421 are PWD voters including 2578 male and 1843 females. There are 6,759 voters above the age of 85 years as well as 19 NRI voters. The number of voters within age group of 18-19 years is 12,555 besides 1254 service voters.
