New Delhi, November 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa, from November 21 to 23 to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, marking a significant moment in India’s global engagement. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this will be the fourth consecutive G20 Summit hosted in the Global South, underlining a shift in geopolitical influence.

Throughout the summit’s three formal sessions, PM Modi is expected to articulate India’s vision on critical global issues. The first session — “Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth: Leaving No One Behind” — will explore how to boost global trade, reform development financing, and relieve debt burdens on vulnerable economies.

In the second session, titled “A Resilient World — the G20’s Contribution,” leaders will focus on disaster-risk reduction, climate change, just energy transitions, and sustainable food systems. India, in particular, is likely to highlight its achievements in scaling renewable energy and its role in international climate resilience efforts.

The final session, “A Fair and Just Future for All,” will address emerging challenges around critical minerals, decent work, and the governance of artificial intelligence. PM Modi is expected to press for diversified supply chains for minerals, equitable labor practices, and inclusive, development-focused frameworks for AI.

Beyond the plenary sessions, Modi is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders. He will take part in the India–Brazil–South Africa (IBSA) Leaders’ Meeting, reinforcing the solidarity and cooperation among these democratic nations of the Global South.

This trip to Johannesburg not only underscores India’s growing diplomatic clout but also presents a stage for New Delhi to shape global discussions on sustainability, technology, and economic justice.
