A shocking incident from Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district has once again highlighted the dangers of social media stunts. An 18-year-old youth, identified as Rohit, suffered severe facial injuries after a cotton bomb exploded in his mouth while he was filming a reel to impress friends.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening in Bachikheda village under the Petlawad police station limits. According to eyewitnesses, Rohit was attempting a dangerous act by lighting fuse bombs in his mouth one after another while his friends recorded the video. He reportedly ignited seven bombs successfully, but when he lit the eighth one, it exploded prematurely, blowing off his lower jaw and severely burning his face.
Locals immediately rushed him to the Petlawad Community Health Centre, where doctors referred him to Ratlam District Hospital for advanced treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
Dr. M.L. Chopra, BMO of Petlawad Hospital, stated that the youth had sustained extensive facial damage, including the complete destruction of his jaw. “The injuries are critical, and he required emergency transfer for specialized care,” Dr. Chopra said.
Police officials, including Station In-Charge Deepak Deor, confirmed the details and attributed the incident to reckless behavior. They urged young people to avoid performing life-threatening stunts for social media popularity.
According to villagers, Rohit had been trying to replicate a viral trend involving cotton bombs, hoping to gain attention on platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Several bystanders were reportedly filming the act when the explosion occurred, causing panic in the area.
Authorities have once again emphasized the need for awareness among youth about the responsible use of social media and the grave risks of copying dangerous online trends.
