India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has received a significant setback from the government. Complying with strict Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) directives, IndiGo has vacated 717 slots at domestic airports—a 10% cut in its winter schedule. This stems from last December’s massive disruptions due to fog and operational lapses, which stranded thousands of passengers.
Data shows 2,507 IndiGo flights cancelled and 1,852 delayed between December 3-5. Noting this negligence and passenger inconvenience, DGCA ordered slot reductions for takeoffs and landings. The move will impact daily operations, forcing travelers to explore alternatives soon.
