In violence-hit Manipur, Army, Assam Rifles rescue 4,000 people, conduct flag marches

Manipur, May 4

The Army and Assam Riffle personnel have been deployed in several affected districts in Manipur after violence broke out during a “Tribal Solidarity March” called by All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in Torbung area of Churachandpur to protest the demand of Meiteis for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The Army conducted area domination exercises on Wednesday night to restore law and order in the state.

The Manipur government suspended the mobile internet across the state for the next five days and clamped curfew under Section 144 CrPC in various districts with immediate effect after violence
