A Delhi to Patna flight was forced to return to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Thursday morning after a technical fault was detected mid-air. The incident raised brief alarm among passengers, but the pilot’s prompt decision ensured everyone’s safety.
According to officials, the SpiceJet flight SG 497 took off from Delhi at 9:41 a.m. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot noticed a technical issue and immediately alerted Air Traffic Control (ATC). With permission granted, the Boeing 737-8A aircraft safely returned and landed at IGI Airport. Passengers expressed relief after the safe landing, and airport authorities commended the crew for their swift response.
Following the emergency landing, the aircraft was taken for a detailed technical inspection to identify the cause of the malfunction. SpiceJet officials confirmed that alternative travel arrangements were made for the affected passengers to continue their journey to Patna.
This is not the first such occurrence for the airline. Two months ago, a SpiceJet flight carrying over 200 passengers from Delhi to Srinagar was diverted for an emergency landing due to another technical issue. In August, a Dubai-bound flight from Surat had to land in Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff for similar reasons.
While no injuries or damages were reported in any of these incidents, aviation experts have urged thorough safety checks and stricter maintenance protocols for domestic carriers to prevent such repeated occurrences.
