Boyfriend Arrested, Girlfriend on the Run After Cinematic Liquor Theft Scheme

In a case that resembles a Bollywood crime plot, a young couple in Kanpur carried out a clever liquor theft operation for months—buying one bottle and secretly stealing another every time they visited a store. The incident unfolded at Global Wines, a liquor outlet inside South X Mall, and has now turned into a police case, with the boyfriend in custody and the girlfriend still absconding.

Foreign Liquor Kept Disappearing

For several months, the store’s owner, Raghavendra Pandey, noticed that expensive foreign liquor bottles were missing from stock. Despite careful records, the numbers never matched. Frustrated, he decided to review the CCTV footage—and what he saw left him stunned.

The footage showed a couple visiting the shop frequently. The man, identified as Nabeel from Juhi Safed Colony, would buy a bottle and pay for it at the counter. Meanwhile, his partner, identified as Shreya Sharma from Barra, would quietly slip a second bottle into her clothing and walk out with it—completely unnoticed.

Together, they enjoyed two bottles while paying for only one, and repeated this trick multiple times over weeks.

Caught in the Act

However, their luck ran out on Monday, November 3. Just like always, Nabeel purchased a bottle of Old Monk. Shreya, standing close by, stealthily tucked away a Bacardi Lemon. But this time, the store staff had already been alerted and were closely observing them.

As the couple attempted to leave, employees stopped them. Panic struck—Shreya quickly handed the stolen bottle to Nabeel, rushed out, started her scooter, and fled the scene, leaving her boyfriend behind.

Nabeel was caught red-handed with the stolen bottle still in his possession. During interrogation, he confessed and provided Shreya’s name and address. The Juhi police arrested him, produced him in court, and he has now been sent to jail. Meanwhile, police are actively searching for Shreya, who is currently on the run.

A Real-Life Crime Story Goes Viral

This unusual “one buys, one steals” method, and the dramatic escape, has drawn widespread attention on social media. Many users have dubbed the couple “Bunty and Babli 2.0”, comparing them to the notorious con-couple from the Bollywood film.

Police say the case highlights how petty theft can escalate into organized routine crime—and how modern monitoring systems eventually bring such actions to light.
