MP Sanjeev Arora questions R-D project’s funding in Punjab under NRF in Rajya Sabha

Government has several schemes and programmes to increase the number of collaborative R&D projects between universities and industries across the country, including in the state of Punjab. Under these schemes/programmes, emphasis is placed on the commercialisation and translation of technologies developed. Investigators are encouraged to establish collaborations with industry stakeholders to ensure that the outcomes of these initiatives result in innovative products and solutions with tangible societal benefits.

This was answered by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Science and Technology & Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh in response to questions on `R&D Project’s Funding in Punjab under NRF’ asked by MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora in the ongoing winter session of Rajya Sabha. Arora had asked about the number of Research and Development (R&D) projects in Punjab Universities that have received funding under the National Research Foundation (NRF) or other central schemes. He had also asked about the number of these projects focused on key sectors like agriculture technology, renewable energy, and medical research. Still, he had asked about how Government is working to increase the number of collaborative R&D projects between Punjab’s universities and the industry.

In a statement issued here today, Arora said the Minister further answered that the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has been operationalised recently. Several Research and Development (R&D) projects in Punjab Universities have received funding under erstwhile Science and Engineering Research Board and other central schemes of Department of Science and Technology. This includes 18 R&D projects sanctioned in Panjab University in which 4 projects are focused on key sector of medical research.

Besides, 110 R&D projects under the scheme of Innovation, Technology, Development and Deployment are there in last two fiscal years in which 12 projects are in renewable energy, 12 in agriculture technology and 11 in medical research. Seven R&D projects from different Technology Innovation Hubs under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems are also there.

The Minister further mentioned in his answer that National Supercomputing Mission has installed 833 teraflop system in National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali dedicated for Agri-Bio tech studies.
