MP Sanjeev Arora distributes copies of the Constitution on Women’s Day, advocates awareness of rights

Ludhiana, March 9

MP (Rajya Sabha) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for Ludhiana (West) assembly constituency, Sanjeev Arora, who was the chief guest at the International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on Saturday, distributed 100 copies of the Constitution of India to PAU, District Administration, and government schools. He emphasised that the Constitution of India is no less than any holy book and every Indian, especially women, should read it to understand their rights and duties.

Congratulating the women achievers from various fields, including teaching, who were honored on the occasion, Arora said it was indeed a matter of pride that women are continuously empowering themselves over the years. In a lighter vein, he remarked that a time may come when men will be seen fighting for their rights.

Highlighting the remarkable progress made by women in different sectors, Arora recalled that there was a time when Indian women were confined to their homes, but now they are actively contributing in every field, including Defence and Civil Services. Expressing optimism, he said that more women MPs will be seen in the coming years as the Women’s Reservation Bill has already been passed in the Parliament. He also acknowledged the fact that women currently hold some of the most prestigious positions in the country, like the President of India and SEBI Chief.

During his address, Arora suggested that school children should be encouraged to read the Constitution of India by organising short courses. He also proposed that certificates should be awarded to all participating students to motivate them.

The event was also addressed by PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, State Information Commissioner Harpreet Sandhu, and Director Students Welfare (PAU) Nirmal Jaura. They all highly appreciated MP Arora’s initiative to promote awareness about the Constitution, emphasising that the Indian Constitution fully empowers women.

The women achievers who were honored on the occasion included: Harpreet Kaur, Sudha Mani, Sonia Virmani, Seema Devi, Anshu Bhatia, Monica Jain, Harpreet Kaur, Satinder Jeet Kaur, Anju Soni, Sandeep Kaur, Dr Harwant Kaur Khush, Dr Deepika Vig, Dr Rupinder Kaur, Dr Parveen Juneja, Dr Sheetal Thapar, Dr Viney Thapar, and Dr Tanvir Sachdev.
