Amritsar, July 17
After receiving emails threatening to blow up the Golden Temple with RDX, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has written a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah and said that this matter should be resolved as soon as possible with dignity and the culprits should be given severe punishment. He also said that he got information about the email he received only after SGPC informed.
MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that an email had come to his office but due to it being a spam email, it did not come to the attention of the staff. The email is very confusing and difficult to understand, but when SGPC chief advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami told him about it, then it was searched and then the email was found. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that this is a very serious issue and he wants a permanent solution to this issue, due to which he tried to meet the Home Minister today, but when the meeting could not take place, he wrote a letter demanding serious consideration and intervention on this issue.
MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said in a letter to the Home Minister that the Golden Temple, Amritsar, is a sacred and historical pilgrimage site of Sikhism and where thousands of devotees and tourists from India and abroad come every day. It is extremely worrying that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has received the fifth threatening email indicating the intention to blow up the Golden Temple. The frequency, continuity and severity of these threats clearly indicate a coordinated effort to destabilize peace and communal harmony in Punjab. He said that permanent, non-political, high-level security should be provided to this pilgrimage site like Vatican City.
MP Gurjeet Aujla said that criminals should be caught technically using artificial intelligence, while the sanctity of the Golden Temple should also be kept in mind. He said that high-tech surveillance infrastructure, including RDX/bomb detectors, baggage scanners, facial recognition cameras, drone surveillance systems and chemical/radiological sensors must be installed..
He said that strict action must be taken to prevent any future threats to religious sites. He demanded that the Golden Temple be declared a ‘National Protected Religious Institution’. He demanded that funds be provided for security and protection under the National Security Protocol and a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and bomb disposal units be permanently established within the walled city.
He said Amritsar is an extremely sensitive area not only because of its international border with Pakistan but also because of its international airport and cross-border pilgrimage routes. He therefore sought immediate and personal intervention in the matter. The people of Punjab and all followers of Sikhism across the world expect decisive action from the Government of India to protect their heritage, faith and security.
