With a view to promoting sericulture in Punjab and further boosting silk production, reeling and cocoon storage units will be set up in the state.
Mission “Har Ghar Resham” will be launched mainly in Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts to increase silk production and provide better opportunities to the farmers cultivating silk.
Disclosing this, Batala MLA and State Working President of Aam Aadmi Party Aman Sher Singh Sherry Kalsi said that with the efforts of the Punjab Government and the support of HDFC The bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility Fund Scheme (CSR) will help in providing silkworm seeds to farmers living below the poverty line, with a budget of Rs 14.82 lakh.
He said that this initiative will help in inducing more and more farmers to take up sericulture and improve the standard of living of the farmers. The scheme includes providing silkworm seeds to the farmers, which will further boost the industry.
Under the CSR programme, HDFC Bank will provide a grant of Rs 51.17 lakh for setting up a reeling unit, which will produce silk threads from cocoons.He said that this unit will significantly increase the income of the farmers and will prove to be very beneficial.
MLA Sherry Kalsi further informed that the Punjab Government’s ‘Phase Scheme’ will promote cluster approach, which focuses on educating and training farmers to become agri-business entrepreneurs.
To support this, inter-state study tours will be conducted, in which HDFC Bank’s CSR program will provide support. This initiative is an important step towards boosting sericulture and enhancing the economic development of rural areas of Punjab.
