Manav Sewa Self Help Group (MSSHG) launched cookies, made using finger millets (ragi), foxtail (kangani) and kodo (kodra), at the School of Business Studies, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
Swaroop Singh, a representative of MSSHG, Haibowal Khurd, Ludhiana and running a brand ”Muskaan Millets” along with FSSAI certification by following the requisites of packaging, made these cookies.
He highlighted the role of 15 members of MSSHG in the preparation of these food products. Dr Manmeet Manav, Assistant Marketing Officer, Ludhiana is promoting MSSHG as well as guiding them about quality parameters.
Dr RS Sohu, Incharge-cum- Principal Forage Breeder; and Dr Ruchika Bhardwaj, Millets Breeder, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU, stressed upon consumption of healthy foods, especially, gluten free millet based products.
“We are promoting good varieties of millets such as PCB 165 of bajra and SL 46 of sorghum, suitable for value addition with specific traits of high iron and zinc,” they added.
Dr Ramandeep Singh, Director, School of Business Studies, PAU highlighted the role of branding, labeling and packaging for promoting millet cookies; and also focused on millet producers, processors and marketers as well as collective bargaining for enhancing promotion of healthy millet foods.
Dr Sohu along with all the team members launched millet cookies under the banner of team PAU, MSSHG and the State Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab.
