Member Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal on Thursday called on Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi urging to declare Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road as national highway besides widening it accordance to existing vehicular volume.
The Member Parliament apprised the Union Minister that this road would provide smooth transportation in the region as well as boost its economic development. The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari assured appropriate action on this project.
While meeting Union Minister at his office, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal pointed out that the Balachaur-Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road connects various districts of Punjab thus leading to the neighboring states. He stated that this vital road connectivity was having heavy volume of vehicular traffic while the existing road structure had become congested causing traffic problems for commuters. He told the Union Minister that the widening of this road would not only ensure safe mobility but also give a boost to trade, industries and tourism activities in the region.
Handing over a charter of demand in this regard, Dr. Chabbewal appealed that this road connecting Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir should be declared National Highway with immediate effect as per the current traffic scenario on this route. He said once the National Highway would further ease the inter-state transportation as well as its time-to-time maintenance by the Centre Government. This is need of the hour to give this road a status of National Highway, said Dr. Chabbewal adding this route is major road connectivity of North Punjab with major industrial centres. He also urged that the Union Minister that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways should consider this demand sympathetically in larger public interest and directions to be issued to concerned authority for necessary action in this regard so that the region could get new impetus in its socio-economic development.
Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal said that the Punjab government will ensure all necessary support and cooperation for this project of public convenience.
