Major crackdown by Jalandhar Administration under ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ Campaign

   As part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, the district administration of Jalandhar launched a major crackdown and conducted a raid on an illegally operating private de-addiction centre. During the raid, a joint inspection team comprising civil, health, and police officials rescued 34 youths from the centre and sealed the premises.

Giving more details, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal stated that during the raid conducted in Jamsher, it was discovered that a private de-addiction centre was being run illegally under the name of Sahibzada Fateh Singh Gurmat Vidyalaya. He added that all 34 youths kept there illegally were rescued and sent to the government-run de-addiction centre at Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, where proper treatment will be ensured. The centre was immediately sealed, and legal action against those responsible will be taken as per the law. He further warned that no violator of the law will be spared under any circumstances.

Dr. Aggarwal added that under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, concrete efforts are being made to rehabilitate drug-affected individuals and help them reintegrate into society. He appealed to the public to reach out to the district administration’s de-addiction helpline number 0181-2911960 for any assistance related to drug de addiction program.

The raid team included Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Nayab Tehsildar Vipin, SMO Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Dr. Abhairaj Singh, Drug Inspector Parminder Singh, and SHO Jamsher Sanjeev Suri.

Sharing further information, Dr. Aggarwal said that the Punjab Government’s intensified anti-drug campaign is yielding positive results. He highlighted a 20 percent increase in OPD registrations and a 65 percent increase in admissions at the Civil Hospital de-addiction centre. Similarly, the rehabilitation centre in Shekhe village has seen a 40 percenr rise in admissions. He announced that within the next two months, a model de-addiction centre and a model rehabilitation centre will be set up in Jalandhar, offering facilities such as gymnasiums, skill development programs, counselling sessions, experience-sharing by recovered patients, and employment opportunities for those who have overcome addiction.

He also stated that to curb the misuse of certain medicines as narcotic substances, the district administration is regulating the sale of Pregabalin capsules, Gabapentin capsules, and Anafortan injections. Medical stores have been directed not to sell these medicines without a doctor’s prescription and to maintain proper records. A special drive is also underway to track the illegal sale of these drugs, resulting in the suspension of licenses of 32 medical stores and the cancellation of two.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the residents of the district to actively support the fight against drugs and share any information related to drug abuse on the government’s WhatsApp number 9779-100-200. He assured that the identity of the informant will be kept strictly confidential.
