6.8 million street vendors taken Govt loan, 45 % are women: Union Minister Tokhan Sahu

As on 26th January 2025, the total number of beneficiaries who have availed the working capital loan under Prime Minister Street Vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Yojana is 68,01,451.

This has been stated by the Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu in an answer to question on `Beneficiaries under PM SVANidhi Yojana asked by MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora in the recently concluded Budget Session of Rajya Sabha.

In a statement today, Arora said the Minister further mentioned in his answer that as on 26th January 2025, the average loan amount disbursed is as follows: Loan -1: Rs.9,951.85, Loan -2: Rs.19,956.76 and Loan -3: Rs.49,517.80.

Out of the total 68.01 lakh scheme beneficiaries, 45% (30.60 Lakh) beneficiaries are female.

PM SVANidhi is a Central Sector Scheme. Under the scheme, loan amount is disbursed by banks directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries. As on 26th January 2025, more than 95.81 lakh loans have been disbursed out of which 43.56 lakh loans have been repaid under the scheme.

Further, the Minister mentioned in his answer that data on the Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) is not maintained by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

It may be mentioned here that the scheme launched during the Covid 19 pandemic on June 1, 2020, by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs provides collateral free loans for eligible street vendors in incremental tranches. It provides loans in three tranches, – 1st tranche followed by 2nd tranche subject to repayment of the 1st of tranche. The loan is provided in the 3rd tranche after repayment of the second loan.
