Ludhiana, May 30
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora is all set to file his nomination papers on May 30 as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the upcoming Ludhiana (West) Assembly by-election, scheduled to be held on June 19. The bypoll has garnered significant political attention in the state, and Arora’s candidature is being seen as a strategic move by AAP to strengthen its position in Punjab.
Arora will be filing his nomination in the presence of his family members and several senior party leaders and supporters, marking the occasion as a major political event. To show strength and mobilize public support, a grand roadshow will be held in Ludhiana on the same day, ahead of the nomination process.
The roadshow will be led by AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, both of whom will accompany Arora throughout the event. Their participation underlines the importance the party is placing on the Ludhiana (West) seat, which it aims to retain with a strong mandate.
The roadshow will commence from Aarti Chowk, one of the city’s central locations, and will pass through Bhai Bala Chowk, culminating outside the Mini Secretariat. The road show is expected to draw large crowds of party workers, supporters, and local residents.
Party sources indicate that the roadshow is not just a show of strength but also an opportunity to engage with the local electorate, highlight AAP’s governance record, and generate momentum for the campaign ahead.
With the by-election drawing closer, the filing of Arora’s nomination and the accompanying roadshow are likely to set the tone for a high-stakes political contest in Ludhiana (West).
In the last three months, Arora has been actively engaging with the electorate of Ludhiana (West), reaching out to diverse sections of society. His campaign has been intensive and widespread, with hundreds of poll meetings and public interactions conducted across the constituency. These meetings have not only helped him establish a direct connect with voters but also allowed him to present his vision and past achievements.
Arora has positioned development as the cornerstone of his campaign. He consistently highlights the work he has accomplished over the past three years as a Member of Parliament. At each public meeting, he shares a detailed three-year report card, outlining key development projects he has facilitated or supported. Notable among these are the Halwara International Airport project, the upgradation of the Civil Hospital and the ESI Hospital, and the construction of four major bridges over the Sidhwan Canal.
In addition, Arora emphasizes his role in pushing forward critical infrastructure initiatives such as the Elevated Road Project and the expansion and improvement of National Highways in and around Ludhiana. By showcasing these tangible outcomes, he aims to build voter confidence in his leadership and reinforce AAP’s commitment to transparent, development-focused governance.
With a well-structured campaign and strong backing from the party’s top leadership, Arora is hoping to secure a decisive mandate from the people of Ludhiana (West).
The Ludhiana (West) Assembly seat had fallen vacant following the sudden and untimely demise of sitting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi on January 11, 2025. A widely respected and popular leader, Gogi’s passing left a significant void in the constituency’s political landscape. In the wake of this loss, the AAP has nominated Arora as its candidate for the upcoming by-election. The decision reflects the party’s confidence in Arora’s performance as a Rajya Sabha MP over the past three years, during which he has played a key role in advancing major development projects. With his candidature, the party aims to retain the seat and carry forward the development-oriented agenda.
