Kartarpur Sahib (Narowal), Pakistan, August 29
Pakistani authorities have successfully conducted a major rescue operation at Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib, evacuating more than 100 pilgrims and local residents to safer locations.
Ramesh Singh Arora, President of the Pakistan Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PGPC), confirmed that despite the heavy flooding, the historic Guru Granth Sahib and other sacred relics at Kartarpur Sahib remain completely safe.
He further assured that floodwaters will be pumped out shortly and appealed to the Sikh sangat worldwide to participate in Kar Seva that will commence at the Gurdwara Sahib once the premises are restored.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz conducted an aerial survey of the area and directed officials to ensure the complete draining of water from the historic Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
Kartarpur Sahib, situated on the banks of the Ravi River, holds immense spiritual significance as the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru. The Kartarpur Corridor, which was inaugurated in 2019 to allow Indian Sikh pilgrims visa-free access to the shrine, remains closed since the Indo-Pak conflict of May 2025.
