Chandigarh, December 9
Former State BJP President and former Mayor Arun Sood said that due to the program of Punjabi singer Karan Aujla in Sector 34 Ground yesterday, half of Chandigarh city was affected due to traffic jam and the residents of nearby sectors had to face a lot of trouble for almost the whole day and people remained confined to their homes for the whole day and due to this there is a lot of anger among the citizens.
Similarly, on December 14, in Sector 34 Ground of Chandigarh, an even bigger program of famous Punjabi singer Daljit Dosanjh is going to be held and after that on December 21, singer A P Dhillon’s program is being held.
“Thousands of spectators and fans will come to these programs, along with a large number of vehicles. Sector 34 is right in the middle of the city and heavy traffic coming from Delhi, Haryana and Punjab also passes through the road near Sector 34 and Sector 32 hospital is also on this road. It has been seen that whenever a big event takes place in Sector 34 ground, all the roads nearby are closed for several hours and the traffic comes to a standstill due to which people have to face a lot of trouble. Many ambulances carrying critical patients from Punjab and Haryana go to PGI and Sector 32 hospital through this road and they also have to face a lot of trouble while going on this road,” expressed Arun Sood.
“Now, looking at the huge crowd expected for the events on 14th and 21st December, it seems that the roads around these sectors will remain closed for almost the entire day. All the citizens living around these sectors will have to face a lot of trouble again. God forbid if someone faces a medical emergency, then God is the only support,” he added.
Sood said that if the city residents go to the administration to get permission for any protest, then the police does not give permission citing traffic jams. Now, such events which are not charitable but only commercial are being allowed in large numbers.
Sood said that we have no objection to such singing programs. The only demand is that the administration should cancel these programs from Sector 34 and give permission for the program at Sector 25 ground or any suitable place outside the city so that the citizens of Chandigarh can be saved from trouble.
It should be known that the Chandigarh administration has a policy that big programs and rallies are allowed only in Sector 25 ground and are prohibited in the rest of the city.
