Haryana’s Energy, Transport & Labour Minister, Anil Vij, has called for a joint regional task force involving Punjab and other neighboring states to combat drug trafficking. He emphasized that since drugs are easily transported across state borders, a unified approach is essential to curb the menace.

Criticizing the Punjab government’s initiative to count drug addicts, Vij remarked, “Counting addicts won’t make them quit drugs. The focus should be on eliminating drug abuse, not statistics.” He also took a dig at AAP’s governance, stating, “They have no leadership, no policy, and their intentions are not right.”

Addressing media queries in Chandigarh, Vij highlighted Punjab’s vulnerability as a border state, noting that cross-border elements continue to smuggle drugs into India, with drones increasingly being used for targeted deliveries. He reiterated that tackling drug trafficking requires a comprehensive, multi-state strategy rather than symbolic measures.

Vij recalled that during his tenure as Haryana’s Home Minister, he had established a dedicated anti-drug wing, separate from the regular police force, to enhance enforcement efforts. He urged other states to implement similar measures.

Taking a swipe at AAP’s unfulfilled poll promises, Vij stated, “The only party in India that truly delivers on its promises is the BJP.”

He cited the BJP-led government’s achievements, such as the abrogation of Article 370, the Ram Temple construction, and the abolition of triple talaq, contrasting them with what he called the opposition’s empty rhetoric.

Accusing opposition parties of misleading the public, Vij added, “They deceive, enjoy power for personal gain, and fail to deliver. Only the BJP turns promises into reality.”
