In a commendable initiative aimed at community healthcare, Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust, a prominent NGO, is conducting a month-long free eye check-up camp for residents of Jawahar Nagar Camp, Ludhiana. The camp is being held at the premises of Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Jawahar Nagar. It will conclude by this month-end.
On the 10th day of the ongoing camp, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, who also heads the Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust, paid a visit to review the services and engage with the patients and the medical team from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana. MP Arora expressed his satisfaction with the quality of medical care being provided and praised the dedication of the healthcare professionals involved.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by the residents, who expressed heartfelt gratitude towards MP Arora and the Trust for bringing essential eye care services to their doorstep. MP Arora, in turn, appealed to the local community to make the most of the opportunity and encouraged maximum participation. He emphasised that in addition to free eye examinations, the camp is also distributing free medicines and spectacles to those in need. Furthermore, patients diagnosed with cataracts are being referred to DMCH for free surgeries, ensuring a continuum of care. Around 1000 individuals have been screened and a total 12 cataract surgeries have been performed so far. Besides, about 500 patients have been provided free spectacles.
Municipal Councillor Kapil Kumar Sonu extended his thanks to MP Arora and the Trust, noting that this is the first time such a comprehensive and extended eye care camp has been held in the area. He said, “Earlier, eye camps organised by other NGOs were usually limited to a single day. A month-long initiative like this is truly unprecedented and greatly beneficial.”
