Jalandhar: Two gangs of robbers busted, 4 held

In a major crackdown on criminal activities, Jalandhar Rural Police have dismantled two robbery gangs, leading to the arrest of four suspects, including a woman, involved in multiple theft and robbery cases. The operation resulted in the recovery of 14 stolen mobile phones, a motorcycle, and a weapon, marking a significant success in the district’s fight against crime.

In the first operation, Patara Police apprehended two individuals, identified as Monu, son of Parmod Paswan, and Lucky Bahman, son of Prashotam Lal, both residents of Ramamandi. The arrests were made in connection with a robbery on January 2, 2025, targeting Baljit, a soldier from Ferozepur.

The victim was traveling in an e-rickshaw towards Jalandhar Cantt when the suspects diverted the vehicle to an isolated location near Bhojowal Gate Link Road. The suspects assaulted the victim and robbed him of his Redmi mobile phone and a wallet containing Rs. 1,500 before abandoning the e-rickshaw and fleeing. Both accused have been arrested and are in police custody. Investigations are ongoing to recover additional stolen property and establish their involvement in other criminal activities.

In a separate operation, Goraya Police, under the supervision of DSP Phillaur, Sarwan Singh Bal, PPS, arrested Dinesh Sharma alias Babbu and Loveleen Kaur, a resident of Rahon, for their involvement in a string of highway robberies. The arrests were made during a naka operation.

The accused were found in possession of 13 stolen mobile phones, a Honda Shine motorcycle (PB-08-FM-1086), and a sharp-edged weapon (datar). Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had been active in Phillaur, Apra, Goraya, and Mukandpur, targeting commuters using weapons and threats to rob them of their belongings. They have confessed to their involvement in 14 robbery incidents.

Separate cases have been registered at Patara and Goraya Police Stations under relevant sections of the BNS Act. The accused have been remanded in police custody, and further investigations are underway.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated These arrests represent a significant step in addressing robbery-related offenses in the district. The police are committed to thoroughly investigating all leads, recovering stolen property, and ensuring the safety of the public. Criminals operating in the district will face strict action.”

Jalandhar Rural Police continue to probe these cases, with further recoveries and arrests anticipated. Efforts are also underway to link the suspects to other unresolved robbery cases in the region.
