Jalandhar Rural Police nabs impersonator evading toll tax with fake police ID

In a remarkable operation against fraudsters, the Jalandhar Rural Police apprehended a man impersonating a police officer during a Naka operation conducted by Mehtpur Police station on January 27, 2025. The accused was driving a black Safari SUV (registration number PB-10-BS-6706) with “Thanedar” boldly written on the rear windshield in Punjabi, creating an impression of authority.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar Rural, Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, said that the arrest was part of a special campaign targeting anti-social elements and fraudsters. The operation was carried out under the supervision of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath, IPS, and DSP Shahkot Onkar Singh Brar, with Inspector Sukhdev Singh, SHO Mehtpur, leading the police team.

The accused, identified as Ansh Gill, son of Karam Chand, a resident of Ungi village, Nakodar, was intercepted at T-Point Chote Bille, Mehtpur. Upon questioning, he failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the “Thanedar” signage on his vehicle.

Further inspection revealed a fake Punjab Police ID card and a black toy pistol in his possession.

In preliminary investigation, it has come to fore that he has given the police recruitment but could not clear it but telling people he cracked it and made fake ID card to support his lie. He affixed fake sticker of thanedar on his car and was evading toll tax.

A case has been registered against the accused under FIR No. 16 dated 27.01.2025 at Police Station Mehtpur under relevant sections of the BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to uncover any additional fraudulent activities linked to him.

The SSP Khakh has encouraged the public to immediately report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or district control room at 112 helpline.

Jalandhar Rural Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify the credentials of individuals claiming to be police officers.
