As part of the unique initiative ‘Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission’ launched in the district, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal inspected the adopted Jalandhar-Phagwara Road (up to the Jalandhar boundary) along with officials from the National Highway Authority. Instructing the officials, he directed that deficiencies on this stretch be rectified at the earliest.
Emphasising the importance of maintaining cleanliness, he said that during the rainy season, water should not be allowed to stagnate, as stagnant water not only damages roads but also causes inconvenience to commuters.
Reiterating Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to making Punjab one of the cleanest states in the country, the Deputy Commissioner stated that ‘Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission’ has been initiated to maintain the condition and appearance of roads in the district. Under this mission, senior officials of the district have adopted 51 roads, each up to 10 kilometres, for monitoring and upkeep. He informed that he has personally adopted the Jalandhar-Phagwara Road (up to the Jalandhar boundary), which he will continuously monitor.
Dr. Aggarwal added that under the mission, daily monitoring will ensure the removal of black spots, rectification of engineering defects, timely repair of potholes, clear road markings, maintenance of footpaths, functioning street lights, and regular removal of garbage to maintain overall cleanliness.
He instructed that officials should immediately inform the Local Government Department, Public Works Department, National Highway Authority, or the concerned department for prompt resolution of deficiencies found during inspections. He further emphasised that the root causes of recurring issues should be analysed to ensure permanent solutions.He stated that officials who have adopted roads have already started monitoring their respective stretches diligently.
