Jalandhar, July 22

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal on Monday directed all Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) of Jalandhar district to identify provincial and central government land within their respective jurisdictions and install signboards clearly marking such properties as government-owned.

These directions come in the wake of complaints regarding illegal encroachments on government land. The DC stated that this proactive approach will help the administration take timely action against any encroachments detected on these lands.

Dr. Aggarwal further instructed the SDMs to send proposals for developing parks and playgrounds on these vacant lands on a temporary basis to ensure their optimal utilization and prevent unauthorized occupation. He added that utilizing vacant government land for public recreation will serve the community while protecting assets from illegal encroachments.

The Deputy Commissioner has also sought detailed reports from the SDMs, including the exact location, measurements, ownership details, current possession status, and any court cases related to the identified lands. He also asked them to submit proposals for the best possible use of such properties while safeguarding government interests.

Reiterating the Jalandhar Administration’s commitment to protecting government lands, Dr. Aggarwal stressed the urgent need to identify, mark, and secure all such properties. He directed all SDMs to submit their comprehensive reports to his office by July 31, 2025, to initiate further action for protecting public property in the district. He also noted that legal action will be initiated after July 31, where Government land was found under illegal occupation.
