Looks like a case of sour grapes for the Shiromani Akali Dal and Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Following the BJP’s decision to contest the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab independently, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal emphasized that principles hold greater significance for his party than mere electoral calculations. He criticized national parties for prioritizing political gains over principles.
Badal reiterated the SAD’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the community, maintaining peace in Punjab, and upholding its principles, emphasizing that the party’s purpose extends beyond seeking power.
Expressing disappointment with the approach of Delhi-based national parties towards electoral politics, Badal emphasized the SAD’s focus on Punjab’s welfare.
Highlighting recent decisions made by the party’s core committee, Badal reiterated the party’s adherence to its principles.
Earlier, Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar announced the BJP’s decision to contest the elections independently, citing feedback from various stakeholders and the party’s commitment to Punjab’s development.
This move comes after weeks of speculation surrounding a potential alliance between the BJP and SAD, with previous statements from senior BJP leaders indicating ongoing negotiations.
The Akali Dal had hinted at going solo in the elections during its core committee meeting in March, emphasizing its dedication to principles over politics.
The party’s resolution underscored its demands for the release of Sikh prisoners and its commitment to championing the cause of farmers and laborers, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling promises made to them.
