Haryana Forest and Environment Minister, Kanwar Pal said that the State Government has recently introduced the “Haryana Pran Vayu Devta Pension Scheme.”

This scheme aims to provide pension benefits for trees aged 75 years and above, demonstrating significant ecological and environmental contributions. Tree guardians, responsible for the conservation of valuable trees, will receive an annual payment of Rs 2750 under this initiative.

Responding to a question raised by Indri MLA Ram Kumar during the winter session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha here today, Kanwar Pal said that the amount allocated to the tree guardians is provided in the form of ‘tree pension,’ intended to support the protection and maintenance of these crucial trees.

The pension for trees will be incrementally increased each year in alignment with the adjustments made to the Old Age Samman Allowance Scheme for the state’s elderly population. The scheme, inaugurated on October 26, 2023, has already facilitated tree pension payments to the guardians of 3819 Pran Vayu Devta trees, credited directly to their accounts.

Kanwar Pal said that the selected Prana Vayu Devta trees encompass 40 different species, with prominent examples including Peepal, Banyan, Neem, Mango, Jaal, Gular, Krishna Kadamba, and Pilkhan. These trees hold immense ecological significance, standing on private, panchayat, institutional, and government properties. However, it is important to note that trees situated on forest land are not included in this particular scheme.
