Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal welcomed the remarks made by the Supreme Court of India in which the Court has validated the Haryana Government’s endeavors in addressing pollution stemming from stubble burning. The Supreme Court advised Punjab to learn from Haryana’s approach in providing financial incentives related to stubble management.

He said that the Supreme Court has unequivocally clarified the guilty in the Parali case today.

Expressing gratitude, the Chief Minister extended his thanks to the farming community for their dedicated efforts in successfully addressing this challenging task.

Emphasizing the Haryana government’s serious approach to the issue of stubble burning, he highlighted the collaborative efforts with farmers, which have resulted in substantial success in reducing incidents related to stubble burning.

Terming pollution a health-related concern, he said that it should not be politicized. He urged for collective efforts to address this issue, emphasizing the need for a non-political approach.

Regrettably, he pointed out that certain political parties and neighboring state governments were engaging in politics on this matter. He highlighted a recent incident where schools had to be closed due to pollution, underscoring the urgency of collaborative action to prevent such situations from recurring.

The Chief Minister highlighted the relentless efforts undertaken by the government to combat stubble burning, resulting in a significant decline in incidents in Haryana compared to previous years.

In contrast, Punjab has experienced an alarming increase in such incidents. He provided statistics to underscore the positive trend in Haryana, stating that in 2021, there were 5993 reported incidents, which decreased to 3233 in 2022 and further reduced to 1986 in 2023.

This reflects a commendable 39 percent reduction in stubble burning incidents between 2022 and 2023 in Haryana. In stark contrast, Punjab reported a substantial increase in stubble burning incidents, reaching 31932 in the year 2023.

This stark difference between Haryana and Punjab is a major contributor to pollution in the Delhi NCR region.Manohar Lal emphasized that the consistent decline in stubble burning incidents in the state is a testament to the success of the Haryana government’s initiatives in raising awareness among farmers about crop residue management.

Highlighting the government’s unwavering commitment to achieving the goal of zero stubble burning, he said that Haryana government has not only launched awareness campaigns discouraging stubble burning but has also providing a financial incentive of Rs 1000 per acre for farmers adopting non-burning practices and effectively managing crop residue.

Additionally, the Agriculture Department is actively supplying farmers with various machines and equipment to facilitate efficient stubble management
