Haryana Minister of Higher Education Mool Chand Sharma said that the primary goal of the New Education Policy-2020 is to transform India into a global knowledge superpower. He said that Chief Minister Manohar Lal is committed to achieving the implementation of this policy by 2025.
Mool Chand Sharma was presiding over the State Level Implementation Committee meeting on the National Education Policy-2020 here today.
In the modern era, India is adapting its systems to meet the demands of the 21st century, with the National Education Policy-2020 designed around the five pillars of access, equity, quality, capability and accountability. This policy is comprehensive and aspirational, intending to revolutionize the education system in India. The New Education Policy signifies a shift from a focus on employability to fostering entrepreneurship, aiming to encourage individuals to become job creators rather than mere job seekers.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi provided the guiding vision for the new National Education Policy. Recognizing the significance of this policy, Chief Minister Manohar Lal has expedited the target for its statewide implementation, aiming for completion by 2025 instead of the initially set target of 2030. The integration of areas such as Artificial Intelligence, 3-D machines, data analysis, biotechnology, etc., into graduate education is expected to cultivate skilled professionals in cutting-edge fields, thereby enhancing the employability of the youth, he added.
Moolchand Sharma said that New Education Policy aims to raise the gross enrollment ratio of girls in higher education to over 50 percent by 2030. Haryana is already making substantial progress in this regard, possessing a current gross enrollment ratio of 32 percent for girls. He expressed confidence in surpassing the 50 percent target well before the stipulated year of 2030.
He said that if the new National Education Policy-2020, which has been approved to change the Indian education system, is implemented successfully, then this new system will bring India at par with the leading countries of the world. He asserted that effective execution of the new education policy would restore India’s historical role as a Vishwa Guru, or a global leader in education and knowledge.
Additional Chief Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Department, Anand Mohan Sharan, Chairman of Haryana State Higher Education Council, Dr. K.C. Sharma and Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of various universities and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
