Delimitation of 2 Municipal Councils and One Municipal Corporation declares illegal by high Court

Chandigarh, October 18

Punjab and Haryana High Court has declared the delimitation of municipal councils Dera Baba Nanak and Dharamkot and municipal corporation Phagwara illegal.

The bench consisting of Justice S. Raj Mohan Singh and Justice S. Harpreet Singh Brar ordered that the violation took place during the delimitation of wards of these councils and corporation.The bench declared the whole process of delimitation illegal and set aside the notifications issued to implement this new Ward bandi. However the bench allowed the Sate Election Commission to start the process of polls for these local bodies, to prepare schedule and to hold elections as per the old delimitation.

The order was passed after hearing the the different petitions challenging the delimitation process.
