CM Khattar launches Samarth Virdhavastha Seva Ashram Yojana to safeguard and ensure well-being of senior citizens

In a bid to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens in Haryana, Chief Minister Manohar Lal today formally launched the ‘Samarth Virdhavastha Seva Ashram Yojana’.

This pioneering scheme aims to streamline access to essential health services and facilities for the elderly, all conveniently available under one roof.

Sharing more details in this regard, the Chief Minister while addressing a press conference here today said that the in the first phase, the Sewa Ashrams have been established at six locations including Jagadhri (Yamunanagar), Sonipat, Hisar, Bahadurgarh (Jhajjar), Sirsa and Gurugram. This scheme will provide great support to the elderly in the state. Through this scheme, senior citizens will be provided with a place to stay that ensures both physical and mental security and comfort. They will be assisted in their care and daily activities.

The Chief Minister said that any senior citizen wishing to enter the ashram will need to submit an application. They must also be permanent residents of Haryana. Parivar Pehchan Patra ID is essential.

He said that under the Prahari scheme, a survey of the elderly people in the state was conducted, in which it was revealed that there are 5200 elderly people above 75 years of age in the state, who want the services of this type of ashram. Therefore, these senior citizens will be given first priority in these ashrams.

The scheme prioritizes the well-being of sick or disabled citizens by offering comprehensive medical care and nursing assistance within the ashrams. Besides this, entertainment, social, and group activities will be organised to promote mental health. NGOs may also apply for operation of these ashrams.

The Chief Minister further informed that arrangements will also be made for those senior citizens who have a stable source of income.

Principal Secretary to Chief Minister V Umashankar, Chairman, Power Utilities PK Das, Commissioner and Secretary, SEWA Department Pankaj Agarwal, Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department Vikas Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Ashima Brar, Director General, Information, Public Relations, Language and Culture Department Mandip Singh Brar, Managing Director, UHBVN Dr. Saket Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, HKRNL Amit Khatri, Media Secretary Praveen Atreya, Chief Media Coordinator Sudesh Kataria and other officers also remained present on this occasion.
