The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and former Union Minister, Kumari Selja said that the BJP-led central government wants to abolish democracy in the country.
“Plots are being made to intimidate and threaten the opposition using authoritarian tactics. The suspension of a significant number of opposition MPs from Parliament reveals numerous conspiracies. It is a disrespect to the nation when the Prime Minister and Home Minister remain silent about the security of the Parliament,” she said.
In a statement released to the media, Kumari Selja said that recommendations were made by BJP MPs for those who attempted to breach Parliament security. Yet, no action has been taken against these MPs. Had these recommendations come from any opposition MP, the BJP and the central government would have made their life unbearable. Their membership would have been jeopardized, and multiple cases would have been filed against them.
The former Union Minister said that opposition MPs want the Prime Minister and Home Minister to discuss the breach of security in Parliament but instead of coming to Parliament, they are touring the country. They are making statements outside and are orchestrating the suspension of MPs who raise their voices, so they refrain from speaking on this issue, kneeling in front of the BJP.
Kumari Selja said that MPs come to the opposition to debate and discuss. When the government does something wrong, the opposition raises its voice and criticizes it. The BJP and the central government want to silence the opposition’s voice by removing so many members from the Parliament at once. However, the opposition is entirely united and will continue its fight with full force to protect democracy.
The former Union Minister said that the public should understand that what is happening to MPs today could happen to them tomorrow. Just as the rights of opposition MPs are being violated today, your rights could also be taken away tomorrow. Authoritarian-run countries operate based on the whims of a single person, and this is the trend that the BJP and the central government are following. In such a scenario, the continuous loud voice of opposition MPs will continue to protect democracy and their efforts will not go in vain.
