Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has called for a central investigation into the repeated attacks on statues of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and temples in Punjab, alleging a deliberate attempt to disturb peace and communal harmony in the state.
Raising the issue in Parliament, Badal condemned the incidents, stating that in the past three months, statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar have been targeted three times, yet the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government has failed to protect them or deliver justice by punishing the culprits.
“There is a clear indication of a larger conspiracy behind these acts,” she asserted, referencing a recent bomb blast near Thakurwara in Amritsar, which she said reflects a dangerous attempt to instigate communal discord in the state.
Badal further expressed concern that despite the prohibited group Sikhs for Justice openly claiming responsibility for attacks on Ambedkar statues, no concrete action has been taken by the state government.
Calling the situation “deeply unfortunate,” she emphasized the need for a central agency probe to identify those involved, expose the forces backing them, and ensure such hateful acts are immediately stopped.
