Punjab Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Friday briefed Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann via video conference about the ongoing flood relief operations in Kapurthala district.

Mundian, who has been appointed in-charge of flood relief in Kapurthala, informed the Chief Minister that operations are being carried out on a war footing in the worst-affected areas of Sultanpur Lodhi and Dhilwan.

This was his third consecutive visit to the district, where he reviewed the situation along with Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal and other officials.

With the rising water level in the Beas river, the SDRF and Army teams evacuated residents from vulnerable areas and shifted them to safer locations. Nearly 240 families, along with their essential belongings, have been rescued. No loss of human life has been reported.

Currently, two SDRF teams and 40 Army personnel are deployed with 15 boats to assist in rescue operations. Relief centers at Lakh Waryan, Ahalikalan, Talwandi Kuka, and Fazalabad are housing around 110 people, where shelter, food, and medicines are being provided.

According to preliminary estimates, around 28,000 acres of crops in Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi, and Bholath tehsils have been damaged. A special girdawari (crop damage survey) will be conducted to assess losses and compensation will be provided accordingly.

Relief efforts include the distribution of 1,250 ration packets and deployment of eight medical teams to prevent waterborne diseases. Chlorine tablets and ORS packets are also being distributed. For livestock, six veterinary teams are operating in the district—so far, 442 animals have been treated and over 100 rescued.
