Farmers’ outfits announced ‘rail-roko’ protest against Centre government

Ferozepur, April 17

The farmers outfits – Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Dakonda) and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee have announced ‘rail-roko’ protests against Centre government on three days to register their protests for four hours.

The Bharti Kisan Union (Ektra Dhakonda) will stop trains on April 18 (Tuesday) for four hours from 12 noon to 4 pm in protest against the value cut on wheat and compensation on crop damage due to hail-storm, rain.

Jangir Singh Khaira informed that the rail rack will be blocked near Basti Tankan Wali in Ferozepur. He said, the Centre government is harassing the farmers and planning to kick them out by planning the entry of corporate houses by issuing the new notifications against the farmers. On the other hand, the Punjab government is showing a dilly-dallying attitude in release of compensation to the farmers for damaged crops.

Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee has also announced its two days’ ‘rail-roko’ programme on April 23 and 24. Stating this, District President Inderjit Singh Bath and others said that due to unseasonal rains, instead of compensating the farmers for the damaged wheat crop, the Centre government is imposing the value cut. We have decided to register our protest through a rail roko programme for two days from April 23. He further said, our dharna on March 23 was lifted on assurance from the police administration but the issue has not been resolved so far.
