Farmers heaves a sigh of relief as Beas waters recede in flood affected villages in Mand areas of Sultanpur Lodhi

Flood-affected farmers today heaved a sigh of relief as flood water in the swollen Beas river started receding up to two feet in the worst-affected village Baupur and other adjoining villages according to an official of the drainage department.

Drainage Department SDO Khushwinder Singh said that water level in the flood-affected villages has lowered up to two feet. A team of the drainage department, headed by Drainage XEN Sartaj singh, today visited the worst-affected village Baupur to know the flood situation and farmers were beaming with happiness on the receding water level and are praying God not to shower rains in coming days as the sunny Day beamed their life with joy.

The drainage department confirmed that the water level is varying from 1.16 lakh to 1.19 lakh cusec and river is flowing peacefully. The Pong dam today released 68,000 cusec of water in the Beas river.

Drainage department X-En Sartaj Singh confirmed that both Dhussi bund and advance bundh are intact in the Mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi.

It is pertinent to mention here that flood water of the Beas river has affected more than 20 villages in the Mand areas and paddy crops sown over an area of 25 to 30 thousand acres of land are still submerged in the flood waters.
